Cotton – a dance story

I stumbled across ‘Cotton’ on Preston’s Flag Market today and really didn’t know what to expect. It’s a dance performance with sounds, costumes, and story telling, which takes you back to the industrial revolution and the lives of the cotton workers.

Like many people in Preston, I had relatives who worked in the cotton mills so it was great to watch and experience this performance by the ‘About Me’ dance company.

The sounds of the machinery, the lip read conversations and the clog dancing, all so relevant to lives of people who worked in the industry and had to endure the harsh conditions.

The dancers did a fantastic job and kept the appreciative audience on the Flag Market transfixed throughout the show.

Here are a few photographs from the performance. Click on any picture to enter slideshow view. ┬áIf you get chance to see a performance of Cotton in the coming months – it has been touring around the North West, then it’s certainly worth a watch. Check out their website here

St Ives, Cornwall in black and white

We made our second visit of the year to St Ives in Cornwall last week and as always it proved to be a rich source of picture taking opportunities. In this blog post I thought I’d post a few photographs taken on a single day of our visit, when I decided to shoot in black and white.

It was a day of sunshine and stormy skies which helped add a bit of drama to some of the shots.

For all these shots I used the in-camera Acros film simulation which is set through the menus on the Fuji X-T2. I could have shot raw files and converted them later but I decided to shoot Across jpegs. The different film simulations is one of the great features of this camera.

I know black and white is not everyone’s cup of tea, so if you want to see colour images of St Ives, my photos from our previous visit are here

Anyway, here are a few photos from my black and white day…
