Cotton – a dance story

I stumbled across ‘Cotton’ on Preston’s Flag Market today and really didn’t know what to expect. It’s a dance performance with sounds, costumes, and story telling, which takes you back to the industrial revolution and the lives of the cotton workers.

Like many people in Preston, I had relatives who worked in the cotton mills so it was great to watch and experience this performance by the ‘About Me’ dance company.

The sounds of the machinery, the lip read conversations and the clog dancing, all so relevant to lives of people who worked in the industry and had to endure the harsh conditions.

The dancers did a fantastic job and kept the appreciative audience on the Flag Market transfixed throughout the show.

Here are a few photographs from the performance. Click on any picture to enter slideshow view.  If you get chance to see a performance of Cotton in the coming months – it has been touring around the North West, then it’s certainly worth a watch. Check out their website here
