Carnival Queen, Julia Russell was chosen as the Carnival Queen for the third time. Preston may officially be the wettest City in England but on one day every year the sunshine and spirit of the Caribbean comes to the City’s streets with music, dance and colourful costumes. Preston carnival has been taking place for over 40 years. It is the largest and longest running cultural celebration in Preston outside of the Preston Guild, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year. This Carnival is organised by a team of volunteers, who work throughout the year planning, organising, and running the event.
