Altrincham Ladies-v-PNE Ladies

The first half of this Cup game is one that PNE Ladies will want to forget.  Defensive frailties and missed chances meant that they went into the break two-nil down. Strangely they could and should have had at least there goals in that half while Altrincham could also have scored more.

In the second half things improved slightly but Preston still couldn’t score and it was clear that this was turning into a collective ‘bad day at the office’. PNE were missing their Captain today and it showed. In the end Preston finished the game with nine players due to injuries and the game ended 3-0 to Altrincham Ladies who deserved their win. For me, this was the team’s poorest performance of the season so far.

A season in pictures…

Last year one of the things I wanted to do was try out a bit of sports photography.  After taking some photographs of one of the Preston North End Ladies FC games, I was asked by their manager, Simon Woodford if I fancied taking pictures for them on a regular basis.

So that’s how I came to put together this short video of a season in pictures. It’s only just over a minute long but it features a few black and white pictures from some of the games I’ve attended. They’re a great bunch of ladies and I’ve really enjoyed watching the team this last year. I’m already looking forward to the new season!

In Pictures: PNE Ladies-v-Carlisle Ladies

It was a bitterly cold afternoon for football today and it was a game that PNE Ladies will want to forget. Within minutes of the start Preston were behind after some poor defending from the home side.

Carlisle were pressing Preston every time they has possession and the home team couldn’t get their passing game going. Carlisle were quicker to the ball in all areas of the pitch but at half time it was still only 1-0.

Unfortunately, the second half didn’t’t start well for Preston and Carlisle soon extended their lead. In truth, Preston never really looked like getting back into the game and the Carlisle keeper had a very quiet afternoon. It was an assured performance from the visitors and they deserved the victory. It finished Preston nil, Carlisle four.

In Pictures: PNE Ladies-v-Leigh Ladies

It was a back to football at UCLan Arena today for the game between Preston and Leigh ladies.  The first half belonged to Preston who played some good football, they competed well and at the interval were two-nil up. Both goals came from shots from outside the area – one of which was probably intended as a cross but they all count!

All credit to Leigh though, they came out fighting in the second half and managed to pull two goals back to make the game even. The second goal followed what looked like a foul on Preston’s Right Back but the referee let play go on and Leigh had their equaliser.

The game still had one more surprise though and it was a mistake from Leigh’s keeper that gifted Preston a deserved winner and three valuable points.

It was a comfortable win for Fylde Ladies today in their cup game against Wren Rovers at UCLan Arena. It was nice to see Fylde down at UCLan in Preston – they played some excellent football and put in a dominant performance winning 6-0.

In Pictures: PNE Ladies-v-Academy Juniors

PNE Ladies and Academy Juniors are two teams that up until today had still to win a game in the league this season. Something had to give and in the end it was Preston’s superior organisation and passing football that won the day.

Preston had dominated the first half and could have scored three or four goals but after 45 minutes it was 1-1, with all to play for in the second half.

Preston started the second half strongly and managed to add to their goal tally. At 2-1 Preston had to withstand a bit of pressure from Academy but they held out and in the end won the game fairly comfortably, finishing up as 4-1 winners.

Let’s hope this is the result that kickstarts Preston’s season.

In Pictures: PNE Ladies-v-Workington Reds

It was another defeat for Preston North End Ladies today. They lost four-nil to Workington Reds, one more goal conceded than the reverse fixture away.

At times it looked like Preston would take something from this game. They played some decent football but couldn’t make it count. Credit to Workington – they defended well when they had to and could easily have had a couple more goal at the other end had it not been for some poor finishing.

There are signs of improvement for PNE Ladies and I really hope that their first win is just around the corner.
